FIELD TRIP: Watkins Glen State Park, New York - June 2018

T and I were in upstate New York (finger lakes area in the town of Hammondsport near Ithaca) for a wedding in June and we had a few hours to kill before we headed to the airport. It had rained a bit over the weekend, but was beautiful this day and the staff member at the hotel recommended Watkins Glenn which was kind of on the way to the airport. So glad we took her advice! Here's where it is:

We paid the $8 to get into the park via the South Entrance and it was a quick walk from the parking lot to the river gorge.

According to their website, "Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks, with a reputation for leaving visitors spellbound. Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course." I definitely was!

I don't recall ever before having such a large payoff for such a small amount of work! Which was perfect for this day as we didn't want to get wet and sweaty before jumping on the plane. We only spent about 45 minutes here, but it was definitely worth the detour.
