Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve, San Mateo County, CA - November 2017

T and I spent a weekend in Half Moon Bay for our anniversary and before we headed back to LA we decided to make a quick stop at the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Here's where we were:

According to the preserve's website "The trees seen here at Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve are probably about 100 years old. They make up what is called a second-growth forest. The original redwood forest was logged in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The largest redwoods were probably close to 1,000 years old when they were cut, with diameters between 10 and 20 feet."

We came into the preserve from highway 35 (Skyline Blvd), parked at the South Parking Lot and walked on the Purisima Creek Trail down for a mile or so. Park map here.

You can just make out Half Moon Bay in the distance

We didn't have a ton of time and T wasn't wearing the proper footwear for hiking so we didn't stay long, but I'm still glad we stopped here. I always love these kinds of places - covered with ferns and moss.
